Afforestation project

Cocoa in Bolivia

Forest protection and improved livelihoods thanks to wild and cultivated cocoa in Bolivia. Wild and cultivated Amazonian cocoa enables the population to earn an income and at the same time protects the forest.

Helvetas Bolivia is implementing the project in close cooperation with the environmental protection organization Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS).
Other partners are the local farmers’ organizations, the Bolivian chocolate producer SOLUR S.R.L., research institutes, the national cocoa platform and other actors in the cocoa value chain.

The overall objective is to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers by improving the competitiveness of Amazonian cocoa while protecting natural resources. Specifically, the beneficiary families should increase their income and food security thanks to sustainable and fair management. At the same time, this should reduce the pressure on the rainforest area.
